“When I start to think of the num­ber of times I have been cajoled, pres­sured, or forced into sex that I did not want when I came into ‘the BDSM com­mu­nity’, I can’t actu­ally count them,” Stryker wrote in Good Vibra­tions’ mag­a­zine. “As I reflected on the num­ber of times I’ve … been pres­sured into a sit­u­a­tion where say­ing ‘no’ was either not respected or not an option, or said that I did not want a cer­tain kind of toy used on me which was then used, I’m kind of horrified.”

Accord­ing to Stryker, ignor­ing safe words, tor­tur­ing women sub­mis­sives with “toys,” and rap­ing them is de rigueur around the dun­geon, but nobody in the scene will admit it or cop to it. When a mem­ber of the ‘com­mu­nity’ does speak out, she is ignored or accused of being a whiner. Or of being drunk. A cloak of secrecy envelops our enlight­ened fetishists, which fetishists, I might add, are con­stantly defend­ing their corny lifestyle as lib­er­at­ing, empow­er­ful, and awesome.

You know it always works out super great for women in envi­ron­ments that are enveloped by cloaks of secrecy.
